The Festival of Lights is a traditional local festival dating back to 1852, when the people of Lyon first placed lighted candles on their windowsills in celebration of the Virgin Mary.
The event has grown in popularity:
2 million French and international tourists flock to the streets of Lyon.
Every year, public spaces – from the city centre right out to the suburbs – become the playground for mapping and light art specialists producing around thirty different installations on show during the four-day event.
